This is what I know of the Wurzel situation:
Left after Sacrifice in 1995 after contributing only 2 solos to the album. Reasons given for leaving:
1 -Sick of the rock life, losing interst (hence only 2 solos on Sacrifice). 2 - Disillusioned with the ballads Motorhead started recording in the 1990s. Lemmy quoted as saying something along the lines of "he wasn't sick of ballads when he recorded his solo for Love me forver in one take and was doing cartwheels around the studio". An unusual excuse given the content of Wurzel's 1997 solo album (but more of that later).
Apparently Lemmy and Wurzel were best mates in Motorhead but the split ended up very acrimonious. Lemmy reckons Wurzel acused him of stealing his money and Lemmy can't forgive him for saying that. Phil is still speaking to Wurz.
I got the 1997 Wurzel solo album (Chill out or die) a few months ago and it's not what you'd expect given Wurz's dislike for the slower stuff. It's basically an instrumental ambient album in the vein of a Pink Floyd intro tune, except it goes on for over an hour. All weird noises with little flashes of guitar here and there. I'm listening to it now and I'm sorry to say that it's as dull as fuck.
That's all I know of Wurz, anyone know any more than that or if he's doing any more music?

This is the bit that intregues me. Does it mean literally stealing money or does it mean that Wurzel thought that Lemmy was getting the credit for everyone's success? There was a little bit about Wurzel on the Boneshaker DVD but it didn't tell me much. Infact, I've learnt more by reading that post. Lemmy pretty much refused to talk about why Wurzel left on the DVD. As I remember, though, somebody did ask Lemmy what happened to Wurzel in the Q&A section of imotorhead.com, and Lemmy said that he'd got sick of rock and roll and had bought a farm somewhere...Could this be a hint? Could Wurzel have found religeon, perhaps?

I had heard that he wasn't making enough money and almost lost his house or something. And then something about him having to get a normal job.

I met Wurzel two years ago, he told me he was tired to be in Motorhead, twelve years of rock'n'roll were too much. It was enough for him. I was surprised he didn't want to get in the party, maybe because Lemmy was inside.
I have my doubt Lemmy was stealing his money, Lemmy was disgusted of this. They were earning enough anyway.

Did you get to find out if Wurzel will play in a band again or if he has retired from music completely?

Wurzel was not as good as Phil playing the guitar. He is occasionally playing in a band now but I don’t know which kind of music he chosen now. What he recorded recently I was told sounds horrible for the Motorhead fans. We knew of him only because was a Motorhead. He is looking very old now and when I met him had this silly haircut. His hair were very short and sooo blond. Anyway he told me he is still listening to Motorhead.

Me. It’s a disaster.

I always preferred Wurzel's playing to Phil's. I first saw them both on the 1986 birthday party video and Wurzel was much more of a natural.
The guitar solo right at the end of "The One To Sing the Blues" has never been bettered by a Motorhead guitarist (IMO). On the "Everything Louder..." live album, Phil totally crucifies that solo. I'll feel pretty stupid if someone now informs me that was a Phil solo, but I don't think it was.
Don't get me wrong I like Phil's playing a lot, but Wurzel had more pizzaz IMO.
I saw a picture of Wurzel with his new haircut and it's a bit shit. He would look old though cos he's about 53 whereas Phil is early 40s.

I’ve heard that Wurzel has recently bought some property in the South of France and is planning to retire there, once Aunt Sally finishes the panto season.

I think that at first Wurzel was the dominate one on such albums as orgasmatron and 1916, and from then on it seems he's had less and less input, like what happened on Sacrifice. Wurzel only seemed better because he was the dominate guitarist, and when Phil shined though more it was clear that he was the better of the two.

I've heard Mikkey telling that before recording Sacrifice Wurzel was difficult to follow with the drums, he was sometimes out of time.

I always thought Wurzel played the guitar kinda funny, in that he had his whole right arm in motion while picking the strings instead of just his wrist. It looks really funny.
