Certainly better than St. Anger. Cyanide is very catchy.
The cover art, however, is vomit inducing. I don't know who thought it was a good idea to put that on anything.

I lost interest in Metallica a long time ago.
Death Magnetic is a rubbish name for an album too. It sounds like something that somebody somewhere spent far too much time trying to think up.
If I didn't know it was the new Metallica title, I'd have assumed it was something by one of the current swathe of emo bands. Or HIM, or somesuch.
Now, if it was called Metal Moshing Mutherfucking Mayhem (Mutherfucker), it would have been more likely to catch my attention.
Not that I'm (maybe) a little bit old school or anything.

"my apocalypse" on mission metallica, fast & heavy whiplash-wannabe,
i like all three songs so far... they all get better with every turn
think the album will be a winner, i did not expect that, even if i knew everything rick rubin is touching becomes solid gold.
we can be proud, our 'head was never in need of him ;-)

But imagine if he produced their album anyway? Synergy says 2 + 2 = 5, and with the band in top form, they would inevitably produce an album that would pretty well crush 90% of their back catalog. Which would be unbelievably phenomenal.
Unfortunately, I don't think Motorhead would want to devote enough studio time for a Rick Rubin album.

Gave it a spin at work today... Might be better after a few listenings...
Oh yeah, forgot to mention, the peaklevel meter reached an all time high... I needed to reduce the volume quite a lot to make it listenable. But that might be different on the real CD, but I think I can recall the same with load/reload...

It gets better and better, but noting has stuck so far, except for the crappy production...

Gave it two spins at work today, still nothing special... Tomorrow I'll be listening to some other stuff, it's death to Death magnetic. A bit sad, I thought that it could be something...

Got myself a copy yesterday, and I have to say I'm very impressed - riffs galore, solos are back and there isn't anything on there that immediately screams "Hit Single" - just like the good old days!
A big improvement on St Anger in every department - yes even the drums - although there is still an irritating hint of "biscuit tin" snare. The opening and closing thrashers are great, and I really like Broken, Beat and Scarred and the instrumental Suicide and Redemption.
So far I have listened to it all the way through 3 times, which is one time more in one day than I managed with St Anger in 5 years!

I've listened to the stream on the website. Broken, Beaten, Scarred, or whatever it's called is by far the highlight. Really catchy, with some very nice melodic bits. Unfortunately, this quality doesn't carry throughout the entire album. Although I do really like the new unforgiven as well. I will probably pick this up on a whim when I seat it on a shelf someplace.

A Swedish newspaper didn't like it and the opinion about the album was that it wasn't very good. After the review had been published the recordcompany called the paper up and canceled a long time booked interview... Not a coincidence, imo...

it's not just the best since the black album, but one of the band's best ever.
best trademarks from master/justice/black, hit after hit, heavy as a hippo.
WOW WHAT A BLAST!!!!
peronal highlights: just your live, cyanide, unforgiven III, judas kiss thats 4 of 10 and another 4 are close behind...
