I've always seen Motorhead as a purist band, but at the same time almost every band overdubs or "fixes" their live albums later in the studio.
I'm almost afraid of asking, but do you guys know if this is the case also with Motorhead?

They say Everything Louder is overdub free. I think it sounds awful thougj. Great setlist made unlistenable by just being too noisy.
Overdubs used to bother me but then i realised that i would rather sacrifice the purist point of view and have a hood quality recording. Its the songs themselves i like after all.
Having said that. I dont like live albums anymore. Never listen to them.

I have read that NSTH has overdubs on everything but the drums. Philthy's drum tracks are 100% live. They did work on the bass, guitar and vocals in the studio. It's such an amazing live album, though, that it doesn't bother me. It's probably my favourite album of all time. I love live albums. Too bad they didn't record and release more from the tours in the 70's and early 80's (properly produced ones, with or without overdubs).

Someone years ago had footage on the internet of that Hamburg show and the sound was just as it is on the album. I've been searching for it for a long time to no avail.
I prefer the live sound from any band, especially this band that we kinda love. When Hammersmith was re-released with the so called outtakes I was overwhelmed like. To the point where I wave edited the raw-er recordings to make a more true live album for that Short Sharp tour.
But wasn't NSTH radically overdubbed? It had to be to get to number 1, I mean, if there was a fuck up on it all the dodgy dj's from the time in England would have never played it. Then again, they didn't anyway. Wasn't The Golden Years re-done to push the vocals up to make it more radio friendly??
I Don't Care anyway coz I've believed for a lot of years that Motorhead should've recorded every studio album live anyway in a big room with overdubs, rather than the frigging pro-tools avenue.....

Yes, the Golden Years E.P. was available as a 2-track radio-play edition that was overdubbed so they could go on Top Of The Pops to perform Leavin' Here!
