I believe that there are many fans of AC/DC here, and what they tell me, have heard the new album? Yesterday I remembered to look for and I got a link to download it, a quick search on google already solves this problem. (Of course, without encouraging piracy, buy the original) Rock or Bust, with the old class of AC/DC, is a pretty cool album. Despite all the problems the band spent this time they got a great result. The album for me sounding with a more hard rock atmosphere as the albums of the second half of the 80s There are great songs there, but I believe that no have the effect of a huge hit for the band, but that doesn't bother listening enjoyment it does accompanied by a beer, or whatever you prefer. Anyway, speaking of AC/DC is like talking about Motörhead, both already made their names and don't need to prove anything to anyone. Definitely an album for who really enjoy the band, much respect for these guys!

I'm going through it. The first impression is that I expected Brian's voice to be in a much worse state by now. He actually sounds better than on Black Ice, I think.

I like a lot of AC/DC songs and it's an absolute great live band. I hope to see them again when there will be a 40th anniversary tour next year and they will play ball in The netherlands, but their last 3, 4, 5 .... albums are (imo) too weak for AC/DC.
There are always a few nice/good songs on each new album, and I always pick 1 or 2 songs for a random metal music CD (like you said, good music while drinking a beer) but overall, for me their latest albums are nothing special. Listening for the first time to "Rock or Bust" I had the same feeling as listening to "Black Ice" or "Stiff Upper Lip" or earlier albums (NOT the Bon Scott era btw). Again nothing special so far .... Maybe I will like it more after a few more listenings, haven't heard it that much yet, but this was my first impression.
You mention Motörhead and you are absolutely right. Both bands don't need to prove anything to anyone !! I know, you can't compare their music styles but when it comes to their latest albums, in my ears the Motörhead ones are MUCH and MUCH better, harder, faster and still powerful !!!! Unfortunately I can't say that from the latest AC/DC albums.
But also respect for the guys, still on the road with success. I bet every stadium concert will be sold out in no time, so that means that they are still popular, even with some "weak" albums, but I say: The deserve it !!!!
Lets Play Ball ...........

Right ,im not a lover of ACDC. A best of album would be great for me but I wouldn't buy their albums as 2/3 decent songs off an album isn't good enough. Only seen them once at Donington 84 when Ozzy stole the show and I have only heard 2 songs off the album(played on the radio) and not really impressed by either. But I was hoping to come on here and read a lot of good reviews and therefore be tempted to buying the cd.Early days I know, and only 2 reviews so far but I cant see me bothering. Maybe some positive reviews over the next week and I might change my mind

I had a listen to it on a workmates' iTunes earlier this month, which left me rather unimpressed, "disappointed" being too sharp a word as they've never been a band to evolve much, but the way I see it there's simply not enough ideas this time to fill a whole LP with - too little butter spread over too much bread, as Bilbo would say. But then again it's nothing but a case of different strokes for different folks, as usual when it comes to musical taste, so good for you Marco, and everyone who enjoys it, more power to you!

I think the Bilbo analogy fits very well here. Still good stuff though.

I'm a massive fan of AC/DC (they are up there with Motorhead and Maiden as one of my Holy Trinity), but sadly most of my love for them is for the albums up to, and including Flick Of The Switch. After that it's a few songs per album that I really like, a few that are decent, a few poor, and some that are dog bad.
Unfortunately RoB is no different. I long ago accepted the lyrics would be bobbins on an AC/DC LP and these are no exception (although they do beat the utter gibberish of Black Ice). In terms of production this is probably the bands best sounding LP in decades, but as those decades take in sonic howlers like Fly On the Wall, Blow Up Your Video, Ballbreaker, etc, that isnt saying that much to be fair. The songs are all short, 11 songs barely hit the 35 minute mark, and there is far too much reliance on repeated choruses and backing vocals. What that means is the songs can't develop at all and in the main follow a simple and not always effective formula:
Simple intro 4 line verse Chorus as long as the verse 2 line verse Chorus Brief solo Lots of chorus to end
The lasting memory from the songs is the chorus and backing vocals, and the riffs, solos and verses all seem to be there to add meat to the chorus which is surely the wrong way to write an album of songs.
Apart from that, the band seem to be borrowing heavily from other artists which has never been the AC/DC way IMO. The worst culprit being Rock the House which is a blatant Black Dog rip off. The songs range from decent (title track, Play Ball, Rock The Blues Away) to bloody cringe worthy (Got Some Rock n Roll Thunder - I shit you not, that is the title) to just plain odd (Miss Adventure which reminds me of one of those background songs from the montage scene of a buddy caper movie like Ocean's 11) .
Overall, I'm pleased they have overcome the terrible issues with Malcolm's health, and look forward to seeing them live one last time (Madrid and Wembley), but all the album does at best is get me tapping my feet a bit and at worst I'm left scratching my head and reaching for the skip button. Compared to recent efforts from Van Halen, Black Sabbath, Motorhead, etc.. (ie bands of a similar age and time frame) this is just another not quite thought through release from the band unfortunately

In other news, Play Ball has been permanently added to my workout playlist. It's perfect to run to. In related news, here is my most refined AC/DC running playlist:
Play Ball Who Made Who Burnin' Alive Hell's Bells Shoot to Thrill Thunderstruck Money Talks Heatseeker
There are other good running tunes, but AC/DC make the most of it.
Because remember kids: the data bank know my number.

1 Year on, can you believe it?, and I haven't listened to RoB in months. So I span it earlier and frankly I wished I hadn't. A poor effort yet again sadly. No lasting power with this one, I didn't even make all 11 songs TBH. Shame but that's AC/DC now, and for the last 25/30 or more years.
