Faith No More - War Pigs Sepultura - War Ministry - Lay, Lady, Lay Johnny Cash - Hurt
and, of course,
Lemmy & Wendy O. Williams - Stand By Your Man
But this one's a classic:

RAINBOW ~ "Mistreated" (Deep Purple) HELLOWEEN ~ "Faith Healer" (The Sensational Alex Harvey Band) SANCTUARY ~ "White Rabbit" (Jefferson Airplane) DEATH ~ "Painkiller" (Judas Priest) FLOTSAM & JETSAM ~ "Saturday Night's alright for Fighting" (Elton John) Except for the first and last one I'd prefer the originals, though

Just checking MArk LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And Regina, you CAN'T have Rainbow Mistreated as a cover, surely with Ritchie on both.....! For the record, the best version of that is on DP "Live in London" from Kilburn 1974

For the record, the best version of that is on DP "Live in London" from Kilburn 1974 Holy moly Tim, you're a walking encyclopedia ! Having said that, I still prefer the Dio-version over the DP original, although Coverdale was undisputably one of THE voices out there when it comes to the bluesy stuff. And yeah, come to think of it you're right, it's not a cover as such - let's just agree on "re-interpretation" then ;-).

Bloody hell -2500 covers!!! I can only think of around 30/40 !!!!!!!!! Well, I probably dl it once with a program called soulseek many years ago. Don't know if it still exist, but it was a sort of a personal P2P program. If you want you could only exchange albums on MP3zzzz to those you had in your list of "friends".
Haven't heard all of those 2500+ cover songs btw.

LOL I had a belting argument in America a few years ago when talking music in a bar and the merits of UK bands vs American, and the guy swore blind that Quiet Riots 2 anthems "Cum on feel the noise" and "mama weer all craze now" proved his point....I gleefully burst his bubble!
One for Chrisvosje perhaps, have you heard Steve Wilsons take on the Cure's "A Forest"?
Regina, I like Dio singing Mistreated but that song was always owned by Coverdale for me. Mind you, Opeth do a fantastic rendition of another DC Purple classic "Soldier of Fortune"
Oh and how about Quo doing "Rockin all over the world"?! Classic version of J Fogerty
Anthrax do a few great covers "Its Late" by Queen and their take on Rush "Anthem" is sensational
In terms of shit ones, Offspring failed miserably at one of my favorites , the Damneds "Smash it up"
And for something less hard , the Stranglers doing Dionne Warwick "Walk on By" is incredible ,esp the guitar solo
Pearl Jam live do a few covers too , their "rockin in the free world" and "baba o riley" are a bit tasty
blimey I'm a very random stream tonight sorry!
