I know these are only top 5 threads but sometimes 5 just isn't enough So what are your 5 (or more) favorite instrumental songs?

Can't think of many, but right now I could def do with a bit of "Tubular Bells" or some quiet Pink Floyd track as I'm trying to get a few hours sleep . Sent from my XT910 using proboards

Most interesting topic! I'll limit myself to actual song from bands, i.e. no classical symphonies et similia. Also I'll stick to one song per band.
1. Apocalyptica - Path 2. John Carpenter/Tim Lang - In the Mouth of Madness 3. Mastodon - Joseph Merrick 4. Metallica - The Call of the Ktulu (S&M version for added orchestra) 5. Daft Punk - C.L.U.
Order may vary. Except for Path. I love Path.
Suicide & Redemption has that super sweet riff in the middle though. You know which one.
What's wrong Regina? Too busy or insomniac?

Rush "YYZ" Agree with Metallica "Kthulu" and the S&M version is incredible Black Sabbath "Supertzar" I alsways liked MSG "Captain Nemo" too And while not band efforts, they appeared on band albums so "Dee" by Randy Rhoads, "Mood for a day" by Steve Howe and Yes, and "Horizons by Steve Hackett/Genesis Mainly cos I can actually play them on guitar LOL

Crikey Rolly, I'd totally forgotten the 2 Rainbow ones, have them on cassette, Weiss Heim was a favourite long ago of mine! Rodrogo and Gabriela the Spanish guitar duo do a killer version of Orion

What a brilliant guitar player that is Rolly. Not the music I listen to daily, but I watch the whole video cause it was great to see how this man played his guitar. Thanks for putting this video on here.
It's nice to see the diversity of instrumental songs here btw. Some nice songs in your lists so far, Orion and The Call of Ktulu are great songs indeed, it was hard to choose a Metallica songs but S & R was the winner for me ;-) Captain Nemo from MSG is also a nice instrumental song.
Hope to see more on here .....

Rodrigo y Gabriela live is a treat. I'm not sure it would be as much fun if you didn't know the original versions - I have the same feeling about Apocalyptica, Legion: even their own compositions, even when they're good, sound very familiar. I agree, the S&M version Ktulu has extra drama, and I love it. I've been listening to quite a lot of post-rock and more local bands since the board went down, and I had a look at my iTunes library. Apparently this is my top five (most played): Drums Are For Parades - The Law youtu.be/FZ8NJfXDLDM Gnaw Their Tongues & Alkerdeel - Dyodyo Asema (admitted, there are vocals in there, but I would still call this instrumental) youtu.be/lYM0ygH_fzkPelican - Deny The Absolute youtu.be/TOAzNXoSJ1AGodspeed You! Black Emperor - Mladic youtu.be/RXdF9uhVrI0And I've always been fond of this - It's so delightfully deceptively optimistic: David Bowie - A New Career in a New Town youtu.be/JhZqsYkl1zI
