Mmmmm been looking forward to this gig for some time now - first up were my old mates Evile (see thread elsewhere). They got a very warm reception for an opening act. The boys attacked their 30 minute set like their lives depended on it - opening with the Rambo themed "First Blood". Singer/guitarist Matt Drake asked a silly question of the audience - "do you like thrash metal? this one is called Thrasher!" Other tracks played were "Those about to die", "Bathe in Blood" and they closed with the album title track "Enter the Grave". The boys went down a storm, and judging by the CD's flying off the merch stand, they gained a few more fans tonight.
Next up were "Job for a Cowboy", an American death metal band I don't know a lot about - not really my thing at all. To me they sound just like Deicide, but they certainly had a few fans in the audience.
And so to Megadeth! This would be the second time I have seen Mr Mustaine's merry men, the last time was on the Countdown to Extinction tour - the one and only time Megadeth shared a stage with Metallica!
They opened with "Sleepwalker" from the new album - the band sound excellent - stage set is absolute minimalism - plain backdrop with the band logo - clearly they intend the music to do the talking. I have to say Dave Mustaine's guitar playing is the best I have ever heard him play. "In my Darkest Hour" and "A tout le monde" are two poignant highlights. The new album is well represented with 5 tracks played - Rust in Peace is represented with four tracks - the rest of their albums get one track each - apart from Peace sells which got two.
All in all a great night of metal!

Excellent! ;D
Ain't it grand to see our heroes rise from the ashes? Just some years ago everyone was deeming Mustaine over, you know, with his problems to the hand and whatnot. I love it when these great bands come back screaming for vengeance: Megadeth, Metallica, Iron Maiden...
;D
