Yeah, 7th Son works best as a singular piece of work.

7th son -awesome Best track on first album - Phantom of the opera
I think the best albums are Beast, Piece, Powerslave, Live after death, 7th son and Brave New World - What a comeback.
Incidentally, I loved Blaze Bayley's first band - Wolfsbane, but i don't recognize his Maiden Albums coz it ain't Maiden!

Yup.. the change DiAnno / Dickinson worked because Maiden were still fairly new on the stage.. when a Band becomes firmly entrenched in the mind of their fans, no matter who you pick, you cannot change the lead vocals and think that things will reamin the same..
Which makes me think.. if DiAnno quitted after five or six albums and THEN Bruce entered, would we be now thinking "Who is this Dickinson and what the heck has to do with Maiden"?
;D

You're right there, changing a guitarist or drummer isn't a big problem, but replacing a well established frontman is nigh on impossible. Sabbath had problems, even AC/DC, and their frontman died!

Well.. if you are Maiden you can change guitarists or drummers as you like. I rather feel you would have problems changing the bassist..
And if you are Metallica I would advise against changing the drummer..
Heh heh.. ;D

I like the X Factor album. Very epic I think and still very Maiden, albeit a darker incarnation. The problem was not that it didn't sound like Maiden, but that metal was suffering a decline in popularity and that Bruce is such a huge personality with big shoes to fill.
Personally I'd have rather had Bruce carry on doing albums like Accident of Birth and The Chemical Wedding than be back in Maiden. I was happy when he rejoined but I hadn't heard his best solo work at that time. Both those solo albums are as good as anything Maiden has done in my opinion, with the possible exception of 7th Son. I need a new Bruce album sooner rather than later but I suspect it could be at least 2 years away.

I admit there was also the problem of substituting the huge personality of Bruce.. (Harris being a rather shy person, his "touch" is felt much more in the making of Maiden's music than in actually peforming it).
Anyway, the problem of a phenomenon with Maiden's impact is that for every Boy Copeland there will be ten others that will not like Blaze because "He's not Maiden" and Bruce solo for similar reasons.
The problem is.. Was not Bruce a little bit old to try solo and think having the SAME success as before?

I don't think age has had anything to do with Bruce's lack of commercial success as a solo artist. It never affected Ozzy and he was around the same age.

Age affected Bruce non for lack of success but for lack of patience.. if he holded on for a little while he will have had good chances.

...unlike Ozzy whose solo success was overnight.

X-Factor is very good (a little darker but hey, it helps when you are in the mood).. I am actually also a great fan of Piece of Mind.

Hmmm....... might have to listen to X-Factor again with an open mind, I like the songs better that I have heard live, but that was with Bruce singing - Man on the edge is a great song, whoever sings it, and Sign of the cross is very good too. Either way, X-Factor was much better than Virtual IX IMO..........what do you think?
Piece of Mind is one of my favourites as well, but listenning to Powerslave a lot at the moment.

I do not own Virtual IX so i cannot answer.. I do not own Dance of Death either, but I will change this soon.
Powerslave is another controversial abum.. some great stuff, some other thing not so good. and different opinions of fans..
I personally, like very much Aces High..
