Seen in the shop today and immediately bought. For the ones of you that don't know them, Apocalyptica are three (formerly four, formation apparently changing each album) Finnish guys who play metal with cellos. They kept going cellos-only (and mainly recording metal covers) till Inquisition Symphony, their second opus, then started going heavy on their own pieces and added percussions (not drums - percussions) and double bass on third one, Cult. Now I listen to this Reflections. New features: violins, piano, cello orchestra, trumpets, drums (this time it's drums too) programming, digital edit, Dave Lombardo. All tracks sound great, music verging towards both ends of the spectrum. The whole album sounds more classical in its classical shades and more modern in its metal ones. Still have to find my personal favourite in the whole tracklisting. Mesmerizing. Heavy. Fun.
4.5 out of 5.
