Skyclad held their xmas charity show last night at the Cooperage pub in Newcastle, England. A great gig it was too, with some very impressive new material being debuted. As with the Cluny gig last May, the first half of the set was acoustic and the 2nd half electric. It's all a bit of a haze now through the vast quanities of falling down water supped, but I'll do my best to recount the festivities. The 'Clad kicked off with "Great Blow for a Day Job" and then "Polkageist", "History Lessens", Land of the Rising Slum", "The Antibody Politic", "Widdershins Jig", "No Deposit No Return" (among others and not in that order) and some cover versions including "Come On Eileen" and "Fairy Tale of New York".
The new tracks sounded very impressive too and heavy. "Parliament of Fools" was very rifftastic. I can't recall the names of the other new tracks they played, but all sounded good and very heavy.
It was great to see a good crowd too. It's a small but ideal venue and the fans turned out in force to fill it.
Many thanks to Kev, Steve, Graham, Aaron and George for a great evening.
