I've heard anything by Willie Nelson. What's he like? You don't know the Red Headed Stranger? A shame, really. Willie is outlaw country, traditional type stuff. He wrote hits for people like Patsy Cline and Faron Young and then started getting hits of his own in the 70's - did a lot of stuff with Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard. I think the great thing about him is that he continues to experiment with varying styles whether it's blues, honky tonk, jazz, rock, etc. I've yammered about this previously on this site, but I had the experience of a lifetime when I saw him perform last year. Wow. Every time they started up a song I got goosebumps. Simply amazing.

One album I could wholeheartedly recommend from Willie Nelson would be Stardust, which features his takes on classic Tin Pan Alley songwriting...It's almost like Zen Meditation for me. Of course, I'm almost old enough to remember when these 'ditties' were 'smasheroos' the first tyme around23 Skidoo

So you're an old fart, RC. We might forgive you for it as long as you stay far away from the curmudgeon role! Another Willie album that I try to sucker people into buying all the time is Teatro. Depressing, but depressing in a good way if that makes any sense.

Willie and his band played a 2 1/2 hour set with no opening act. Show was good. Scored a couple of his guitar picks after the show.

I've never heard anyone score a guitar pick after the show... ;D scored a Lemmy pick too last time I saw Motorhead Cheap Trick is playing tomorrow night in Newport. The sound/lights crew are all friends of mine an they invited me over. There's gonna be a catered bar-b-q for the crew before the show. The show is going to be outdoors next to the water, so I'm thinking about taking the ferry over tomorrow afternoon. There's a couple great tours this summer, but there not comming through my area. tour#1 Misfits The Damned The Dickies Agnostic Front Balzac and D.I. I've seen all the bands above except for Balzac(never heard of 'em) should be a graet tour tour#2 Circle Jerks GBH Good Riddence and Murphy's Law same as above but I have no clue what Good Riddence is about. ROCK & ROLL ;D

Both of those tours are swinging through Mpls and both are at a dreaded Clear Channel venue. Boo hiss on Clear Channel. I'll probably check out the Misfits show, but I don't think I'll do both.

This afternoon I'm going over to St. Paul (which is kind of like visiting a foreign country! ;D ) to the Taste of Minnesota Festival to check out some bands. It's a 4 day event and features tons of marginal food, over-priced beer and tons of fashion disasters (lots of mullets, socks worn with sandals, bikini tops that shouldn't be seen outside someone's backyard, etc) shipped in from the suburbs that turn out to see the freebie concerts. A couple of my friends went last night to see the Romantics and the Knack play and were fairly impressed - they reported that Blue Oyster Cult were just going through the motions. I'm hopeful that today's shows will be fun. I'm going with a couple friends to see Dickey Betts, John Mayall and George Thorogood.
