I would like to provide an informative, objective and helpful review of Motorhead's recent show in Saarbrucken, but given that I'm now malnourished, sleep-deprived and suffering a serious case of back-to-work syndrome so it's probably going to be more of a rambling, useless string of nonsense!
As I've mentioned before, I tend not to be able to give a non-biased opinion with a chin-scratching analysis of events when I've had a skinful of booze and I've been down the front jumping around and having a damn good time. Anyway, in my (not very reliable) opinion, the band sounded/looked better than the last time I saw them in June. I think Lemmy seemed a bit more composed, and I can't be sure but I don't think he messed up the lyrics too badly at this show - he just seemed to be a bit more 'there'! It was bloody good to here something off Bad Magic too - 'When the Sky...' isn't my favourite track off the album but it's definitely one of the better ones . Shame they dropped 'Damage Case', but to be honest even though it's one of my favourites it hasn't sounded right the last couple of times they've played it, i.e. too bloody slowly! Still got 'Orgasmatron' and 'Doctor Rock' so all good, and was great to see 'Whorehouse Blues'.
Not sure how sincere Mickey Dee was in saying how nice Saarbrucken is etc., but I agree wholeheartedly about that Even after hours of travelling with zero sleep, and surviving pretty much solely on beer and pretzels, I have nothing but good things to say about that town and its inhabitants! I've rarely felt safer, being a lone female traveller, anywhere else and I don't think I've ever encountered so many lovely, friendly people, both fellow gig-goers and just random people in shops and on trains etc.! From the scary-looking dudes in the pub beforehand who offered me a seat in their taxi, to the lovely French people who offered to drive me back to my hotel afterwards, to the awesome old guy on the train who regaled me with tales of seeing the Beatles back in the '60s and gave me his contact details should me or any of my friends want a guided tour of his city and a place to stay, gave me throat sweets for my beer-and-fags cough and seemed genuinely stoked to bits that I had a positive experience with German people and places
It was also a bizarre coincidence that the first Motorhead shirt-wearer I accosted in my hotel came from a few miles up the road from my hometown in Cornwall, and did a stint in my workplace a few years ago too! All in all, I had a great time and would do it again in a flash!
Oh, and Saxon were pretty good too - missed Girlschool due to getting lost on my way back from the pub!
