It's been a while since my last post on here, busy with all kind of things, but wanted to share the last performance of Motörhead's European tour with you .....
Motörhead - IJsselhallen, Zwolle (20 November 2014) The Netherlands.
It was June 2013 when I saw Motörhead the last time live at Forta Rock.
A few months after that it went downhill with Lemmy's condition/health.
We all know the story and I think we all thought we might never see them live on stage again, but thank God we were so wrong.
As soon as the tickets were on sale for the announced Motörhead gig in Zwolle, I had to buy them.
Despite the high ticket price, I wanted to see them at least one more time if it was still possible.
Last Thursday they were back in Holland, same place, same venue as in October 2011 when they did their "The Wörld Is Yours" tour.
With the six of us we started the pre party in my little Motör Pub at around 16:00
With some Motörhead beer and of course lots of nice Motörhead tunes !!!
At around 18:30 we were heading to Zwolle (approx. a 125 km distance drive) but we took 2 stops for a smoke and some more drinks.
With that delay we arrived at about 21:10 at the IJsselhallen, Zwolle.
As soon as we entered the hall (it looked like we were the last six, haha) Motörhead started playing.
Now thats what I called a timing !!!
My wife, one friend and I went directly to the front. The other three went straight to the bar.
Let's say half way the song "Shoot You In The Back" we were managed to get to the 3rd / 4th row.
It looked like Lemmy's voice wasn't in a good shape in the beginning, but it was getting better and better by each song.
If you ask me, it was with the song "Over The Top" when his voice was back at Lemmy level. I didn't mind it was not the powerful singing in the beginning and I don't care if he's just standing the whole concert behind his microphone doing his thing. I was so glad he WAS on stage. Mikkey and Phil were absolute great too. It's always a pleasure to see Mikkey drumming and headbanging at the same time. Phil was walking a lot from the left to the right. For me it seems that all three of them enjoyed themselves very well on stage.
After Phil's guitar solo, which looked very nice with all those green lights, they went straight into the song "Suicide".
How nice to hear this song live. Definitely not my fav song from Inferno, but damn good to hear it live !!!!
On with "Rock It" and "The Chase Is Better Than The Catch" ..... Excellent !!!
Then it was time for two new songs from Aftershock. "Do You Believe" and "Lost Woman Blues" and it was great to hear those songs live. The set continued with "Doctor Rock" (with great drum solo as always) "Just 'Cos You Got The Power" "Going To Brazil" and "Ace Of Spades".
After a short break they came up again for the big final.
"Overkill" ..... as usual ..... and this is the best way to end a Motörhead concert imo.
The double bass, the awesome guitar part, a roaring Lemmy pounding on his bass guitar and the constantly flashing lights. This is Motörhead !!!
It might be not their best show I've seen but definitely a lot better than in 2013 at Forta Rock.
So nothing but respect for Lemmy that he's still on stage !!!
I've heard (and read) ppl saying afterwards that the ticket prizes were much too high for this performance, their setlist was too short, Lemmy wasn't at his best, Lemmy looked so skinny, Lemmy didn't moved at all and bla bla bla bla .....
Ok, maybe they are right, but Lemmy is older than everyone else and he is the man who is still on the road and standing on the stage giving the best he can after all these years.
If you followed the band and read articles you should know that they can't perform the same anymore as, let's say, 10 years ago, so don't expect a gig like in 2004 .....
If you still do ?? Then go back to whatever rock you crawled from !!!!
I for sure had a GREAT time and I was so glad I could see them live again.
Hope to catch them somewhere on their 40th anniversary tour next year !!!!!
Cheers all and Rock n Roll .....
