Metal! The musical genre for epic lyrics, whether triumphant or foreboding. Then sometimes the genius of the lyricist produces lines as everyday-sounding as nothing else, and I love it. I feel like it's almost always intentional, and they're so brilliant when sung over a soaring melody.
Bonus points if part of the refrain. x2 multiplier if the song turned out to be a classic.
"Oh well, whatever" - Iron Maiden, 'Iron Maiden'
"If you're feeling alone, then just pick up your phone" - Helloween, 'Mr. Torture'

I love Saxons latest, and the awesoms "Standing in a Queue" takes first prize for the lyrical mundane , give it a listen I beg of you!
Maidens eponymous anthem just works though. My 3 year old sang it to me the other day when we were watching Sonisphere, just the "IM;s gonna get ya" bit, I was well chuffed

I love the Iron Maiden song. And yes it is an earworm.
Nice title for the Saxon one there. I expect brilliance.

Give it a whirl Legion, the rhymes are killer "Standing in a queue - don't know what to do - haven't got a clue" etc etc, Biff at his lyrical finest! I don't play it enough to recall specifics, but I got a copy of a Bullet For My Valentine record from maybe 2010, and the lyrics were so appalling I couldn't listen again. Strange how them, and Trivium wer seen as being the next HUGE bands and its never really happened for them. I like Trivium but they need shorter albums with less fucking filler songs on them, put out a 10 song cracker rather than an overlong bitty cd

AC/DC Send For The Man (Fly On The Wall album) actually gets away quite beautifully with the line
'This ain't no gun in my pocket'

And years later the same band sang a bozze related ditty entitled Whiskey on the Rocks which had the line
'This one's on me, here's mud in your eye'
Quite sophisticated for the band who brought us
'Her hot potatos will elevate you Her Bad behaviour will leave you standing proud'

Truly, AC/DC have a talent for turning mundane into epic.
"The data bank know my number"
I still have to check that Saxon song. Cursed slow connection.

Quality! It would make ZZ Top proud.

somewhere in Europe, theres a band mangling lyrics as we speak...! As it happens, the new Accept record has a song called Dying Breed about the heroes of the 70s/80s and rather than being heavy handed it's a lovely lyric referencing some great bands If I recall "The Iron Fist cut the deck and drew the Ace of Spades" for isnstance Good record
