I'm planning to go to a city festival (Lokerse feesten, in Lokeren, Belgium). Well, that is, at least one night. August, 2nd. The Kids. Buzzcocks. The New York Dolls. Sex Pistols. Paul Gallagher & Phil Smith. That last act is a DJ set, which should be 'punk-oriented', or so I'm told. I love the Kids (the only Belgian punk band - www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMAVIrVBZTU ), and the Buzzcocks are amazing. Sex Pistols, legend - I've always preferred the Clash and the Damned, but they are legendary. But I never thought of the New York Dolls as punk. They're a great band, with fantastic music. Proto-glam, or whatever, but not punk, I think. And still. I think (and silently hope) they might just be the best band in that line-up.

I wouldn't call the New York Dolls punk, they had already broken up when the punk thing started to get moving, but they sure influenced a lot of punk bands.
