It all started back in 1993 when a group from Newport, South Wales called Dub War hit the scene. They mixed metal, punk and ragga into a mix that some fans believed to be a new genre called ragga metal/punk. They lasted 6 years and released two albums before they split. In mid 1999, two members of Dub War came back onto the scene with a new group titled SKINDRED. Now both bands may be similar, but Benji has noted many times that Skindred is a whole new project and not a reform of Dub War. Skindred have to date released two albums, namely 'Babylon' and the recent 'Roots Rock Riot'. They have toured with the likes of Soulfly, Pitchshifter and Bullet for my Valentine. When it comes to their gigs, Skindred sure know how to get people dancing and moving to their music...even listening to the albums, make you wanna get up and dance. The band started a UK tour on 15th May at Birmingham and it ends on May 31st in London. Check this band out at www.skindred.com and also www.myspace.com/skindred . They are the sort of band who can go some way to being noticed in America, but struggle over in this country...but I'm sure that will change. If your going to Download this year, check them out there. Listen to Ragga Punk!!!!
