This album eventually outsmarted Bastards for me. Terminal Show and Keys to the Kingdom almost could do the whole trick by themselves. ;D

When I listen to this album today, I've got three favorites....
- In The Year Of The Wolf - Down On Me - Whorehouse Blues
The rest is good too, but to narrow it down to three, this is it.
... final judgement

On reflection, I think Whorehouse Blues could have been done better. It's a little soulless at times for a blues song.

It's certainly much more ironic than most blues songs.

After a year and a half, Inferno is starting to fall in my favorites list. I would only award it a 3 or 3.5 now. I may have overlistened to it, but I attribute some of it to the sound and production. I mean, Cameron Webb is awesome, but it sounds a little stiff. Hard to explain. Perhaps feeling too metallish for me? Who knows.
I've noticed this with a number of albums, including Sacrifice and Bastards. Quite saddening, really.

Yeah it is metallish indeed. Which could be considered bad or good. You know

Indeed. Being more into the punk scene than the metal one, the older material appeals to me more these days. Still, Inferno is an amazing album. But I seem to be growing out of it a bit.

Now that I come to think of it. A punkish album for the next one would be interesting. Would be nice to put a metal and a punk one next to next and see today's Motorhead takes on the genres. Plus, punk is so much fun ;D

I'd like to see Motorhead stripped down to sound like a proper 3 piece again. Less guitar overdubs so that the bass comes to the fore more during instrumental and solo breaks. The music and songs are a lot cleverer with the modern Motorhead but sometimes they're too heavy nowadays. Songs like Sacrifce have never really done it for me.

That's exactly why I prefer the older material. I've never been a fan of Sacrifice, and some of that made it onto Inferno. Terminal Show and Killers grew old fairly quickly to me. I mean, by all means, it's still an incredible album, and definitely one of Motörhead's best, but it just doesn't have the flow and Rock'n'roll feel that classic Motörhead had. Of course, songs like Life's a Bitch and Down on Me and some of the best they've ever done. If they could combine the cleverness as mentionned by Cope, with the intensity and flow of the Ace of Spades album, they could have the album of this century, hands down.
