I'd like to say first that this is probably one of the longest, and loudest concerts I've ever been at in my entire life. It started at 8 pm and we didn't get out till about 1:40 am! My ears are still ringing!!
The first 2 bands, Today is the day and Speeddealer,in my opinion were totally worthless. All they did was make the show longer. Today were totally idiots, with the drummer looking like he was going to have a fucking fit while overly bashing his drum kit, and the guitarist throwing his expensive Paul Reed Smith Guitar accross the stage. Untalented fools for sure. Speeddealer looked like a bunch of suburban boys you'd find working on their muscle cars in the driveways of homes anywhere in the USA. They sounded like a sloppy version of Pantera or newer COC. They didn't add anything to the bill at all.
Morbid Angel got quite a response, and I ended up getting sucked into the pit for a song or two. They were quite good, as good as a death metal band could be at a live performance. The drummer was just amazing, playing those blast parts with very little effort. I'm pretty sure he was playing to a click track and he had his drums triggered by electronics instead of being mic'd. I'm not a huge fan but they played several songs off of "Altars of maddness" and ended up their set with "Chapel of Ghoules", and me getting sucked into the pit.
Then the real show began with Motorhead starting off with "We are motorhead"! Lemmy was playing his new signature model Rick bass. I couldn't beleve the crowd response in the pit. People were just bashing like hell all over the place, in what I think was a sold out show. I was getting pissed because I wanted to watch the show and ended up getting pushed farther back from the stage. I could care less about the fucking mosh pit, I wanted to see all of the band I came there for! I was suprised they played "Damage Case" and "Shoot you in the back"! Even the oldies got a huge response. Some little piece of shit threw something at Lemmy and he totally bitched at him! Why would someone want to do that? Mickey Dee did a drum solo during "Sacrifice" They did the encore with "Ace of Spades" and "Overkill", then then at the end because it was Phil's birthday, the road crew smashed cream pies all over him. It was funny as hell.
For a man Lemmy's age, and with all the drugs and booze he's done over the years, I though he looked great! He didn't strike me as a guy the same age as my parents! I don't think he looked any different than how he looked back in the 80's. They all looked great though!
I thought that the crowd was a great mixture as well. I seen Metalheads, Punks, Goth people and just really regular looking people there. A mix as it should be. I felt pretty comfortable there, unlike last fall when I seen Cradle of Filth at that same place. It was packed full of trendy cliche goth fuckers who think they're superior to others because they wear all black and think they're like vampires or something. Those little punks don't know the first thing about metal. They're going to find their little trend is going to fade away and I'm sure they'll be on their way to the next stupid trend. Oh well enough said!!
For anyone who is later on the tour I recommend going to this show!! Except show up 2 hours into it so you don't have to watch the first 2 shitty bands.
