And here it is, the review and photodiary of the event.
I arrive at the venue a little early to catch the guys by surprise. It actually works, cause I actually come across Piggy (aka Steve Theado, guitar man of the ensemble) and neither of us recognizes the other. I spend some time with the local and 'Dog crew (they all seem to know me ) to find out that yes, Piggy's here, so we get introduced. Nice start...
This man's name is Hey Man. Any Questions?
We have an hour or so before the gig starts, so Piggy takes me to the nearby diner where the other Dog guys are drinking. Atmosphere is instantly on the Very Friendly indicator. We all work hard to keep it that way, the guys with beer and me with a strange - and rather disgusting - Red Bull substitute. We talk about the place, the true values of rock'n'roll, How Piggy Survived A Car Accident, and Mike describes the delicate weapon balance of power in the U.S. Keith, the natural drummer, is the quiet and guru-like one. Sits and nods. For everyone of you who know Incarnation, he's the same breed ;D No one of us succeeds in taking our waitress to the gig ;D
Piggy, the rock'n'roll vet
Keith and Mike
Back to the concertplace... bar is called Garage Deluxe, and it's a most nice large room in a former factory, painted matte black, traffic lights, cars and the likes hanging from the ceiling. A band called Rebel Storm is playing before American Dog. I, the heavy metal tourist, take advantage of the time lapse to pester the locals.
A flashed crew
Out Rebel Storm (great band, eh), in American Dog. The guys are well-grounded hillbillies from Ohio (they won't hit me for this ) so they do their part in setting the stage.
Keith is setting his drums
Mike is setting his mike
"Hey Piggy, try and look busy!"
The crowd being a dozen people, the event immediately switches definition from Gig to Party (Mike will later tell me this has been the most little gig they've had in a long time - well, at least I was in the front row ;D ).
What's that blur?
The guys won't stay still
Mike played bass
Mike looks almost serious
Piggy playing, front side
As thegig party goes on the guys take various pieces off 'Dog's three releases such as Barely Half Alive, Too Damn Sober, Drank Too Much, Train and Shitkicker, all at VERY HIGH VOLUME, in a great and sizzling rendition - of course, that's nothing compared to the American Dog Beer Trick (will Piggy be able to drink a whole pint in a shot?) or Mike's mindmeld experiment ("Now you all think of your favourite thing to do...")
BEER GOOD
The notorious American Dog Beer Trick
When the setlist's over Mike makes a speech, which goes like this: "Now we're supposed to walk off the stage and you all go aw, c'mon, come back, but that's bullshit alright? So we're gonna play one extra song now okay?" ;D And the song is Motorhead's Bomber, and they dedicate it to ME* ;D ;D ;D
After Bomber there's time to drink (yes, again) and for me to get an autographed AD poster ( ;D ) and Keith's broken (and autographed) sticks ( ;D ). Plus, having an illustrious precedent in Roadcrew's meeting with the guys in Canada, we all have to take a special shot, shown here below. That's all folks!
Everyone says Hi
;D
*And Mike breaks two strings on that too. Perfect rock'n'roll ending innit.
