I always liked the Hawkwind version with the violin solo on the flipside of Kings Of Speed!

Motörhead guys have said that they don' t play Motorhead anymore in their live shows because Mikkey Dee can't hack Philthy Animal Taylor's mad groove on the original version. While that may be true, it surely can't be the reason for them not playing it! Actually, I think Mikkey did a decent job with Motorhead on their 2008 version for Guitar Hero 3 computer game, everyone can listen to it from here: Motörhead: Motorhead (2008 version for Guitar Hero with Mikkey Dee on drums) on YouTube www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrzoYJhdu6YI am not 100% sure that is Mikkey 'cos there is no official info about these recordings as far as I know, but listen to the drum fills at 1:39 and 2:40 or his usual blasting at the finishing rumble of the song - it sure sounds like Mikkey! And the line-up Lemmy - Phil Campbell - Mikkey Dee recorded also Ace Of Spades and Overkill (and maybe some others) for these "rock computer games" in 2008. They are all on YouTube. But here's my point: I think the reason for not playing Motorhead is with its lyrical content. It is openly pro-drug song and since Mikkey joined those have not been in their live set. Actually they haven't done those even on their records since Lem got a bit more serious with his lyrics after moving to the States. The Monty Python style dry humour surely got left behind to UK There really aren't that many pro-drug songs in Motörhead repertoire to begin with and even less have ever been in their live set. Well, I think it’s a good choice not to tell the young kids in their audiences about the joys of drugs, (“Can't get enough, and you know its righteous stuff, goes up like prices at Christmas!”) but it’s sad that they have forgotten this brilliant song – they even wrote a replacement for it on 2000’s We Are Motörhead and still play that in their set!! Its lyrics sure are more about the definition of their band and its force than about “all good clean fun” BTW, when Lemmy received the Bass Player Lifetime Achievement Award a few weeks ago, and in his short "speech" he said "I see on you the ice" I thought is this some hockey reference or what, but I found it really funny anyway I guess I was thinking about the coming winter and Lemmy touring Northern Europe and slipping on the icy streets of Scandinavia with his cane Only today I realized that Motorhead's third verse ends with lyrics "I guess I'll see you all on the ice" Funny guy that old Lemster

I always thought the version by Poison Idea was cool: youtu.be/qhzTAJlie2EIn fact, their whole covers album Pajama Party is really cool, especially their version of Kick Out The Jams.

'See you on the ice' is an old saying in England.
I must ask my old Dad what it means, he used to say it a lot when we were kids.

I know the real reason they don't play the song anymore and got this information on very good authority and can confirm it is true. Unfortunately I am sworn to secrecy but I can tell you it is nothing to do with the lyrics or with Mickey not being able to play it-I mean Lemmy says hes the best drummer in the world at the end of every gig and he cant play it !!!!!! Utter bollocks. One day I will tell you all and its a very simple reason for not playing a song, but when I found out why I lost a bit of respect for Lemmy for this

Plus the clue to the "Motorhead " song But I have Rockin Vickers, Sam Gopal, Hawkwind (with Lemmy and without him) etc.... Thats why I never needed this cd. Only song which is mistery on that cd is Thirsty And Miserable. I heard that today for first time! From where this came from? Is this song from his solo album or somebody's cover? And you can tell us that clue right?
