... not with motörhead though, but still...
just in case you missed that in the new mhb-mag:
philthy's message for mhb's...
hello motörhead-fans everywhere, how the fuck are you doing? well, guess who? it's me, philthy. motörhead mick asked me to write a few lines for the fanzine, just to let anyone know who might be interested (are ya still there, you seven?), in what i'm up to these days. after 13 years of absenteeism from the music biz (but not my friends in it i hasten to add), i've met 2 people who have become my best and closest friends, and also fellow band members. i met them when i went to the motörhead 30th anniversary show in los angeles at the wiltern theatre on, of all days, april fools day last year.
whilst standing in the wings watching the show, this guy with one hand stuffed into his inside jacket pocket suddenly kind of lunged towards me. "whaaaahh" sez i, you're not gonna stab me, are you?" i yelled at him. he just cracked up laughing and almost couldn't stop. when he did it was to pull out from his pocket a demo cd of some of his music. his name was, and still is, i think, whitey kirst. after the show we bumped into each other again, and he introduced me to his friend and bass-player, max 'the knife' noce (pronounced no-chey). he hails from sicily, and told me he had seen motörhead many years ago when i was with the band, in milan, when there was a near-riot because we were very late going on due to i can't fucking remember what and most of the audience began chanting "facista! facista!"
what a gig that was! turned out ok, though i still don't know why they were calling us fascists? anyway, the three of us got talking and got on like a house on fire. we didn't even touch the subject of playing music, or booking up with each other, just laking about and having a laugh at other people's expense, (etc. etc, as one does on free backstage booze and suchlike and so forth). we exchanged phone numbers and went our seperate ways.
about a week later, whitey called me up and asked me if i'd like to come down to an empty factory in venice beach, california, where he was staying, and have a jam with him, see what happens sort of thing? so, me and whitey got together a few days later, (i took my roland electronic kit 'cos it all fits in three suitcases and fits i my car), and started jamming. it was great! we had such a laugh. i think we joked around and swapped on the road stories, people we both knew and all the shit music biz has to offer, you know, social security, old age pension plans, benefits, tax rebates and who qualifies for them, how the business company exec's really look out for the musicians they make their money from, and in general, how great and super it all is. yeah, like fuck we did! max didn't appear for a couple of days, but when he did, it was obvious to the three of us that we had clicked.there was a deep sense of spirituality in the room, we seemed to play as one with each other, moving in and out of each other's vibes, man, this natural, spiritual feeling we where experiencing together. man, what a load of old bollocks! it was the fucking acid i put in everyone's drink ya silly cunts! ha! ha! ha! nearly had ya, didn't i?
in only about six weeks of playing together, we came out with about 11 brand new songs, three of which you can hear and give us some feedback on, what do you think?
for all you die-hard motörhead-fans out there it probably won't be metal enough for ya, but give it a listen anyway, it can't hurt now, can it? eh? you can hear the songs at
www.myspace.com/maxnoce
we should be getting our own website soon, where we'll probably put some more songs up for ya to listen to. oh yeah, nearly forgot, didn't i? i suppose it's customary to give out a few more details about the band, yeah? well, fuck custom! if ya wanna know more, let's hear from you! the band's name is "web of spider".
peas.
out.
