I retract my vote of 4 stars and give it a 5 these days. Are you mad copeland? This is just a very adverage 'heavy metal' album that is badly mixed. There is NOTHING edgy or dangerous about this at all. Lem should have got Vic back in the fold on production...

There is NOTHING edgy or dangerous about this at all. I think it's one of the best sounding albums ever. It may have been a happy accident of "bad mixing" but I think the album sounds perfect. I would rather they went back to a proper 3 piece sound though, like back in your day, Eddie.

I really enjoy the raw sound of it some classic hymns on it, Deaf forever, Mean Machine Doctor rock. I must say After hearing Doctor Rock as an opener countless times I prefer the studio version.

Welcome to the boards.
I don't care for Doctor Rock live at all... I like the studio version, though.

Classic album. At the time I wasn't entirely sold to be honest. Deaf Forever, Dr Rock, Built For Speed all grabbed me but the rest left me a bit cold 30 years ago. Now I listen to it and think with a little more oomph in the production this could be their masterpiece.
Built for Speed still my favourite on the album. Great stuff.

Excellent album. Mean and vicious from start to finish. Deaf Forever and Orgasmatron are the best tracks on it in my opinion. I like Ain't My Crime too. I give it 4/5. My opinion has changed since I posted in this thread all those years ago. Orgasmatron competes for the top spot for me, now. a 5/5 album. Shame we can't re-vote. Maybe we should open new threads for updated opinions.

An awesome record... My favorite cover ... will do a tattoo with that awesome art... Two of my favorite songs at all. ... Orgasmatron and Riding with the driver... A shame they never played live .... and once I read it, it was because they couldn't play the guitar solo on Riding? is that true? cheers Marco

No more how to vote, but anyway my vote would be a beautiful 5 !!! This album is amazing from start to finish, I think it took everyone by surprise when it was released because of the formation have been drastic changes and yet topple the great classic, the eponymous album! It's really unbelievable the Lem's energy source! No words to songs like Built for Speed, the gross Dr. Rock and insane Ridin 'With the Driver! By the way the whole album is magnificent as usual!

I have to agree, the mix is a bit strange, even feel a sense that recorded inside a cave or something. hahaha I think is a great idea the re-recording, hear the killer Orgasmatron with a more modern mix? Beautiful, fucktastic sure!!!!! Would be difficult to replace Würzel, but this problem is for Phil. hahaha

Wurzel is impossible to replace. Nobody played guitar like him.
I wouldn't like it altered except to make it louder.

John.. I think as you... In my opinion, Wurzel fitted so well the band... I always told people that Wurzel was, after Lemmy, the face of Motorhead. Campbell is ok for me ... but Wurzell incarnated the band... I was really disappointed when he departed from the band... I know re-recorded something is way of line for Lemmy... as the reunion of the " classic" line up ..
